The water was 12 degrees, the tide wild, and I was naked—vulnerable to the pull of the ocean. Every wave felt like a memory returning. Like the sea was trying to reclaim me, carry me back to ancestry. I trembled, I surrendered, and in that moment I understood: the ocean does not take without giving. It was angry, It stripped me to soul, then offered light in return. Respect isn’t a big enough word.
